    Question Custom Watches?

Has anyone made a custom watch? I would like to make one out of platinum similar to this one but with a much nicer dial (below). This one was 900 Platinum / 100 Iridium. I lost the auction yesterday mostly because I didn't want to pay more for a watch with an ugly, crooked dial.

I think your answer depends on how customized you want to go. Lots of people as far as I understand customize their watches. I'm sure somebody who knows far more than me on the subject will eventually chime in.

Budget, size, and movement seem like relevant questions... If you just want a rectangular face along the lines of the watch you showed, Baume & Mercier Hampton line wouldn't be a bad fit. Pretty sure they're quartz, but the white face in polished stainless is a nice look. I've got one on a brown leather deployment strap that looks pretty good, I think.

I wouldn't mind paying a few thousand dollars. I think I will prefer automatic movement (but not sure which).

Baume & Mercier really doesn't impress me. I have every rectangle watch I can find that I like other than JLC reverso right now (I keep changing my opinion on which one I like from them). I wanted something made out of solid silver or platinum. Something simple and classy. Somehow no one seems to make what I am looking for so I thought about trying to make it myself. I imagine there must be other watch people who when hunting for their grail, gave up and decided it would be cheaper to build it?

If you can find someone who'll make a custom auto out of solid silver or platinum for a few thousand dollars, I'd certainly love to hear about it. I have no idea if that's possible or not, but knowing me, I'll be next in line behind you if it is!

I was considering making a small production run actually. What color face would you go for? I am thinking about a nice white enamel with platinum markers and numerals. I want to make something classy, timeless, sleek and sophisticated. If I can find a good watchmaker I would like to add the subtle detail. I am thinking about having my cad designer start putting some designs together for me. I keep debating between a classy retro or modern classic look.

RGM can do it for you... you could even go hunt down a vintage piece and have them re-case the movement.

Omega AquaTerra GMT - 1972 Heuer Autavia Viceroy - Ball Engineer Master II Diver World Time
