Deciding between two watches... Hentschel and Montblanc

I am trying to decide between two watches. One is a old design hentschel with closed back I found on ebay germany:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hentschel-J...gAAOSwHpRZeGy3
    Name: hentschel1.jpg

Size: 86.4 KBName: hentschel2.jpg

Size: 65.5 KBName: hentschel3.jpg

Size: 62.3 KB
And a montblanc heritage chronometrie 38mm from ebay:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/MONTBLANC-M...25.m3641.l6368
    Name: mb1.jpg

Both about the same price. The hentschel is 37mm x 10mm. The montblanc is 38mm x 7.65mm. Both good size for my 6.5'' wrist. The hentschel has closed back and I don't like the slight "break line" between the lugs and the case of the hentschel. But I REALLY enjoys the dial of the hentschel. The hentschel uses a direct eta 2824-2 and the MB uses a slightly modified eta 2892-a2 caliber.

I want to select one of this watches as my entry watch, since I am still searching for my ultimate grail watch. This is the post that contains my criterions: https://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/unde...d-4698211.html : thin, central second, date, <40mm, well decorated movement with understated look and clear back case.
I haven't found one yet. So I am selecting one of these two watches above as a back up.

Any suggestions of selection of these two or recommendations for my ultimate grail watch? thanks

Definitely the Montblanc. A far more elegant design. Many more contrasting details that catch and hold the eye without being too busy. It also is significantly thinner while only a single millimeter larger in diameter.

Montblanc. I really like the blue seconds hand with the gold indices.

I like the crown on the hentschel, and possibly the hands, but overall I prefer the MontBlanc.

The Montblanc benefits from economies of scale that Hentschel does not. I would pick the Montblanc on case size alone before you add in the nicer dial, hands, and sapphire case back.

Often bauhaus designs like that of the Hentschel’s make it look like one is wearing a miniaturized wall clock. Some watchmakers can actually pull it off by using subtle design cues (e.g., Nomos and Stowa) such as changing the hands or using fewer numerals. For that reason alone, my vote obviously goes to the Montblanc.

Thanks for the information. That clock similarity gets me laughing. I didn't discover that before about the bauhaus design, but now I can't look at them in the same way. Do we have any comparisons of ETA 2824-2 vs ETA 2892-2A? Are they equally good in terms of accuracy and stability?

I own this Montblanc and definitely recommend it. Perfect size dressy watch for a 6.5" wrist. By far the lightest and most comfortable from my collection. Always grab it when I wear a suit.
