Are digital watches a guy thing?

Pretty much all the women I know, including my wife, wear and prefer analog to digital.

Has this been anyone else's experience? If so, any guesses as to why?

Some of my co-workers wear digitals, and I've seen female customers wearing them too.

Years ago I read that once digital went mainstream it was targeted at women. That always seemed strange to me and it might be untrue.

My first girlfriend only wears digital.

My girlfriend three girlfriends ago usually wore a baby-g.

Hmm, so I guess not. But you're mostly right. I just think that, as a fashion accessory, it's harder to put a pretty hello kitty picture with a big gray LCD cutout on it.

Nope, I see just as many females wearing digitals as analogs... Generally fashionable type ones like Baby G's and other brightly coloured things.

The males I notice wearing digitals tend to be more gadget watches like Pathfinders, G Shocks and Suuntos

A female friend of mine told me that women don't normally like to use alarms or other extra functions that the watches have.

I don't know any women that wear digital watches. From my experience, the women I know or met wear watches as a fashion statement i.e. they're wearing designer pieces. Most of which are analog Michael Kors watches.

I work in healthcare and see quite a few females, mostly nurses, who wear Ironman (Ironwoman?) watches

I work near a hospital and see plenty of nurses and other healthcare workers on my lunch break, and a good chunk of them are wearing digital watches.

Much more a guy than a gal thing although there are women who wear digital watches. Witness the models for sale.

+1 to all of these. The plethora of models being the main indicator. If women were gung-ho for LCD watches in pretty cases, there'd be tons of LCD watches in pretty cases.

Plus, there are studies that show that women understand things more in a visual way and men more in an analytical way. Good because it's complementary. The analog hands are clearly more visual and the LCD numerical read-out clearly more analytical.

When I see an LCD watch on a woman there are usually a number of reasons:

    - she's a nerd
    - she wears it as a counter fashion statement
    - it's her boyfriend's/father's/brother's watch
    - she's lesbian and likes the more masculine looking pieces
    - she wears it for the added function, e.g. heart rate monitor for jogging or a GPS so she can find the car (just kidding, I'm usually the one who has to ask the GF where I parked the friggin' car)
