    Discounts ????????????

First let me say that it is not my intent to bash...
I just ran across an advertisement for an Invicta chronograph and I have nothing against that brand, I have owned one in the past and it was an OK watch.... What I do question is the unrealistic pricing, are people actually fooled by their questionable suggested list pricing practice..... the watch I just saw said list price 495.95 and it was crossed off and the sale price of 59.99 was highlighted. Now i like getting a discount, but almost 90%, come on lets get real

    Yes.

This practice is not unique to watches. Many people have no idea what an item should be or is worth. The become convinced they are "getting a deal".

I have found (with watches, clothing, and most other things) that truly high quality, extremely well made items are rarely discounted much if at all. If I see a sale off MSRP like that, it immediately throws up a red flag. I always love it when someone tells me that they just got this xxxxxxxx item that was originally $1,000.00 for $39.99 and believe that they just got an incredible bargain! Most of the time, I don't have the heart to tell them they probably paid what it was worth in the first place .

Many people are not very good at math either. (Unfortunately)

I am sure there are people out there that given a choice, would take:
    $1150 - Whopping 51% discount!! Today only!
    over
    $550 no discount.

Shop NBC uses "retail value" alot and that is very subjective; high fiction.

Sad but true. I fell into this trap when I first started collecting.

While this is true, it should be pointed out that you can still get "deals" on Invictas, especially from DOTD sites.

    Re: Discounts ????????????

I tend to hang in the sales forum here-I find that the deals I make there generally ARE deals, and not the inflated types found by purchasing a new watch. Sometimes I get a story, too, which is a bonus.
