    Disinfecting a watch

Let's say you accidentally knocked your watch into the toilet and that you now need to clean and disinfect it. How would you go about doing so? A watch maker would probably tell you to get lost. Disinfecting solutions will most likely be hard on the seals and coatings. How do you clean and disinfect it?

Dish soap and water. Most dish soaps are antibiotic but are more gentle than alcohol hand sanitizer. And give the watch a good rinse following.

I doubt any disinfecting solutions is going to harm the watch (seals or any coating) unless you're soaking it for weeks/months/years. Spray it down with 70% ethanol or 10% bleach solution or soak it for a few mins if you're that worried. Such a short exposure shouldn't really have any significant impact on the seals. Just my opinoin though.

The 2nd thing I learned in life.... Always put the seatcover down.!!

Anti-bactirial hand soap, use cool to just warm water and wash your hands and the watch at the same time, should be good to go.

What is the Water Resistance rating on it? That would make a difference on how I approach cleanup. If WR is greater than 50M, I'd just run it under warm water, then a dip in alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.

    Flush it...

If you're bold enough to retrieve it, then microwave it...

I think a mild antibacterial soap and a toothbrush to get in the hard to reach places should do the job. That's how I clean used watches I buy, especially those with high WR.
