Do I really need one more watch ????

This is a random Christmas thought that I just wanted to share.

As always I was searching for my next watch earlier this month, when I recieved a phone call telling me that my cousin (who heads a non profit organization that built a school in Nicaragua) was ill with cancer. Which got me to thinking. With all the good work he has done over his life I have never contributed to his organization. As I sat pondering my watch purchase I was overwhelmed with the thought, do I need one more watch?

I rerouted the money that I had intended to spend on a new watch and sent it to my cousins organization. The money will pay the school tuition for approximately 40 kids.

At this time of year I just wanted to share that thought. I am not looking for an atta boy, or soliciting funds for any organization. As I throw money around on watch purchases, at this time of year I was reflecting on how much good that money could do somewhere else.

So for this year, the answer is, no, I did not need one more watch.

Just a thought, thanks for letting me share.

    God Bless

Good for you! I buy watches only to mark very special events. My dad got me one when I graduated from high school. I bought one last month to mark a very special event. Next one I'll buy to mark a similarly huge event.

(I have three kids and should've bought watches when they were born, but at that time I was kinda broke).

Now that you've done something so freaking awesome, go buy a watch to mark this event :)

I'll still give you a pat on the back, it's always good to give. I give to cancer research through payroll deductions so I don't feel the pinch by donating all at once.

I'm sure you mean: "No [you don't need another watch]. Charity is a better use."

Not: "No charity is a better use [than buying a watch]."

    Am I correct?

Re: Do I really need one more watch ????

I guess the question comes down to, "do you really need any watch at all?" My answer is a resounding no. I wouldn't be too happy but I could get along with telling time on my cell phone. I like to spread my money around in many ways. Donating money to a worthwhile cause can be done along with a new watch. I was going to buy that pre-owned Rolex at a local pawn shop that I've wanted for quite some time but instead, I paid off bills for my recently unemployed cousin with a new baby and bought a Luminox for myself. Not as heroic as putting 40 kids through school but I saw an opening and took it. Happy Holidays!
