Do people actually buy super expensive watches?

I mean, I know the answer is yes. But looking at the coverage of the new $124,500 diamond / rainbow DayDate, I had to ask myself...to people actually buy stuff like this? I can't fathom dropping that kind of money on a watch. I would love to know what percentage of Rolex's annual revenue comes from super, super high end stuff.

Maybe not a huge portion of their sales in terms of quantity (otherwise you’ll have neverending waitlist for their expensive stuff too) but I have seen regular people wearing leopard daytona (not Liv Tyler)

They must sell or manufacturers wouldn’t produce them. The only thing that I can say for certain is that $124K counts me out.

Yes, people buy them. For many people it's more affordable than you or I buying a Steel Sub. That's just how the world works and it's ok.

I know it’s a rhetoric question. Others in another country may ask: do people really drop $10,000 on a steel watch?

No "regular" person wears a leopard Daytona.

Don't need to go that far.

There are ~ 1.3 million households in the US worth $10M or more. That's about 1%. $125K wouldn't be pocket change, but it is something they can pull off.

Remember, too, that Baselworld draws dealers and interest from around the world. As was noted...Hong Kong sells an insane number of pieces like this. The Arab world does too; enough to justify Dubai Watch Week.

I think people fail to realize the sheer number of seriously wealthy people out there.
