I don't mind light surface scratches on a watch, but do mind those that are visible and take away from the look of the watch. If the watch has a satin finish or some cleaning type marks on the metal, I can live with that.

Bezel scratches bother me. Bracelet scratches are inevitable. Dents bother me though.

    It depends.

On the bottom of the lugs? Not so much. You can't see them.

On the sides or top of the case, yep.

Scratch on the crystal = replace.

used to bother me a lot but not as much today.
Sometimes normal bracelet or case wear can be polish out but you will have them later. So why bother!?
Does bother me if it is a gold watch though. That is why I don't after gold watches....

It bothers me a little but I am a realist and realize that if you wear, you tear.

There is one big scratch that annoys me though, even though it's on the back of one of the lugs and you can't see it when it's on the wrist. I did it changing a strap, something I've gotten very adept at (or at least thought so). Got careless and made a gouge, the case is palladium and softer than s/s

I've never been bothered by it. My father-in-law bought a Rolex in 1978 that he wore as a daily beater for 10 years. He was very rough with it. The crystal and case was scratched up beyond belief. It was so bad that he stopped wearing it in 1988 because he couldn't clearly tell the time anymore. After sitting in his dresser for 21 years, my wife and her siblings sent it in for service. It came back looking brand new. I was blown away. After seeing that, I know any scratch can be addressed by the service center.

This right here :D. The first one always drives me crazy and makes me angry. The next subsequent ones bother me less and less, until one day, I look at the watch and realize that it has a rather gorgeous patina of scratches and wear that make it my own, and make it unique. Then, when I get a new watch, the cycle begins again...

I've never owned a very expensive watch, so no, they don't bother me, considering how much I abuse my watches.

I don't even mind scratches on the crystal as long as it's not obvious and easy to see. I have some scratches on my Citizen's crystal, but I can only see it under bright light at certain angles, so I don't worry about it much.

I'm obsessive and neurotic. Everything bothers me. But scratches on my watch? Eh, they're to be worn. I can't live in fear of scratching a little piece of metal.

    Re: Do scratches bother you?

The only time scratches bother me is if I didn't personally ding it myself. It also highly depends on the type of watch.

If I buy a vintage I want it to be pristine when I get it. It doesn't have to be BNIB but I like it to have been polished out before it gets to me. That way any scratches I find are from me and me only.

If I buy a new watch it doesn't bother me unless it's a classy watch. My old IWC Mark XVI I liked scratchless.

I guess it just depends really..
