Does anyone know anything about this watch?

    Hi my name is Justyn,

This is my first post but, I have been looking through the site and gaining lots of knowledge for some time now. Anyway, I was going through some old boxes and came across this watch that belonged to my great uncle. Hoping someone will know something about it. Thanks in advance!

On the back case it says "stainless steel back. Swiss made. Fond. Acier inoxydable.
On the movement itself it is engraved "robot watch co"

Welcome to WUS! It looks like a 1950's Swiss chronograph. It looks to be in reasonably good shape considering it's age and was probably enjoyed by your great uncle for several decades. Write down everything you know about the watch and keep them together.

If you plan on wearing the watch at all I would have the movement serviced but leave the dial as is. The crystal has a crack or scratch that if it is completely through could be replaced. The strap should be replaced as old leather can suddenly give way. But keep the old strap.

If you have no plans on wearing the watch at all then just store it safely in a box or watch display case.

edit: Here's a tidbit about Robot.

a little searching tells me Robot Watch co or Robot Time were an import co based out of New York in 40's /50's - imported movements that presumably would fit into generic cases as in this instance -not expensive but nice old boy !!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I appreciate it. The watch does say "extra" on the dial.

I don't really plan on wearing it at this time. The crown seems to just pop out, so I need to figure that out. Mainly I like its old vintage style with history behind it. At some point I do want to get it running again.

That was a good read on the robot co.

Here's one more I came across. It says "orvin" on the dial. On the inside case back it says "W.M.K. Case" and on the movement (which still works good, hand wind) "Sears Roebuck ". Who knew a sears watch could last so long!!

Yes back in the day Sears sold a lot of quality wish book merchandise that was made by recognized manufacturers. Tower cameras made by Pentax, etc. The crown can be reattached by a watchmaker. To be honest I would just push the crown back in and enjoy it as is as an inherited remembrance.

    Welcome to WUS.

The first watch you've posted cases a Venus 170, aka up & down chronograph. That movement was pretty popular in the 40s and 50s and used widely even by popular brands which are still existing around. The lack of shock protection in both timepieces - even though patented in mid 30s -makes me lean towards the 40's.But the second's case-back marks indicates more like 50's. Love those straps - strap maniac - should not buy more straps, should not buy more vintage straps....Great heirlooms, congrats
