Does a t-shirt and spit harm my AR coating?

I have a few watches with a top and bottom coating of AR and was wondering if it rubs off over time when cleaning it? I typically just use a little water (or spit) and wipe with my shirt. Is that not good over time?

It is OK, unless you wear Chainmail!

That is my Method of Choice too.
I always have clothes on, and my mouth is full of spit!

Of course, the spit may be a bit strong, but that depends on what you drank the night before.

Yep me too. I have read on here that the AR coating is as hard as mineral crystals (Yes I know there are lots of different kinds of mineral crystal used!). Please dont hold me to that though as I have not tested it!

No, spit won't harm your AR coating, but it will make it disgusting.

Nah! I am covered with it 8 hours a day, and I am OK!

nah man im pretty hard on my watch, ive taken chunks out of wooden doors with my watch that had the audacity to try and shut before I had entered completely, and have whiped the crystal with anything clothlike whithin arms reach and have never messeed up the AR coating on my watch, granted its only six months old but it rarely leaves my wrist.

With a nice clean soft t shirt it should be no problem as long as you aren't compulsive about it. If the shirt has any dirt, dust, etc., then I would say that over time you will probably gradually damage the applied coating.

I guess it depends if you just finished either eating something with tabasco or coke

Urban legend states coke can be used as a acid.
