    dome crystals

So I recently acquired an oris 65. Didnít purchase bc of the domed crystal but now Iíve fallen in love with it! Any other watches out there with similar domes?! Nothing too extreme bc Iíve seen some other threads here and thatís not for me. I mean similar to the oris. Thanks all!!

I'm with you. Just upgraded my turtle to a domed acrylic.

    Re: dome crystals

My appreciation of a dome will depend on how it works with the case and overall appearance of a watch. For example, on a Seiko SNK809, I really prefer the flat crystal it ships with. I've seen people swap in domes for the flat crystal and it doesn't look as good, in my opinion. To my eye, the slope of the case and bezel in combination with the dome is too much.

On the other hand, the domed crystals on most Junghans watches are great. There's very little case material outside the dome, and since the watches are quite slim the effect is elegant.

Recently I swapped the flat crystal on a Raketa polar watch for a dome, and I like it even more now. The angular flat crystal felt a little bulky and the dome streamlines it a bit, in my opinion. It went from this (cracked) flat:

I just acquired an oris BC pointer date. Liked the domed crystal and how it created distortion from an angle. Very cool.

Yes. Does it have to be sapphire or are you ok with acrylic? The high domed sapphire emulates the look of the vintage acrylic crystal so youíll most often find them on reissue/homage models or other watches aiming for a vintage aesthetic.

I can think of a few examples of other divers as well as dress watches and field watches with either high domed sapphire or acrylic. Let us know what style youíre after.

I really enjoy vintage divers. If itís got a dome Iím open to all styles now! Sapphire is preferred but Iím always open to new styles! Thank you!!

Tudorís BB58 is one of my favourites in a diver. For a different style, and more affordable I like the Smiths Everest. Some other micro brands, like the Maen Hudson. Iím sure others will chime in.

You're talking about 'box domed' crystal watches and the Seiko SLA017 is one of them.

Omega acrylic crystals have the Ω symbol in the center of the crystal - look closely and you can see it right above the hand stack. It is also partially reflected on the broad arrow hour hand.
