Duty Free Watch Import to US w Croc Strap

In the past, I have bought one watch from Germany before, and it was on a SS bracelet. No issues, delivered in three days, FedEx was great, $25 duty fee.

For my next aquisition: This would be a watch imported from outside the US with a Croc strap. From the searching I have done here, and on US customs website - Croc seems to be a red flag. Shipping it separately or excluding it from the shipment might also be a red flag.

For those that have done this transaction: Please tell me what I need to know about any additional fees or charges with the watch & issues / recommendations about croc strap before I go this route.

    Thanks!

I know this isn't what you asked, but i bought an Archimede Pilot H directly from Germany and was billed $15-20 by FedEx for duty a few weeks later. The watch was on a leather strap, so I am wondering what drives the fee. I have purchased from sellers in other (Asian) countries and never paid duty. They used EMS shipping, however, so I don't know if it is the originating country or possibly the shipper that triggers the fee.

    AR1:

Disclaimer: My knowledge is only based on one transaction.

I bought a watch from a seller in Hong Kong with a croc strap, sent fed ex. It didn't make it passed customs because there was no CITES certificate (as I understand it - the CITES certificate ensures the strap was lawfully produced/adhered to international endangered species regulations).

I'm supposing that as long as your seller has the CITES certificate and it accompanies the watch, you should be fine.

Also remember that many straps just look like croc or alligator but are really leather that's been embossed with those patterns. If that's the case, have the seller state something to that effect when he ships the watch (probably on the custom's form and on a sheet of paper attached to the strap itself. I've had a few shipments held up because someone thought the straps were croc - yet they really weren't.

Good to know. The one I am looking at is genuine Croc.

    No problem Jesse.
