Smile Engagement watch! - Help me choose :)

    Hi guys!

My girl got a ring and said "yes" so now we are looking for an engagement watch to seal the deal.

She'd like to spend a reasonable amount (1k - 2k EUR range) and she'd like to get me a nice dress watch.

I would like to have a rectangular one but the options are very limited and I do not like everything there is out there. So far the ones considered are:

    Oris rectangular date,
Longines Dolce Vita (28mm), although there is not much info available on this one and I fear it is too girly - I'd like to know your opinion on this one.
Eterna 1935 (white dial). Doesn't seem to be available anywhere, not even 2nd hand.
Vintage Reverso (out of price range), although it is a grail to me ...one day.

My first request would be to know your opinion on these pieces and also get some alternatives if you happen to have any in mind.

Secondly, we are looking at vintage Omegas: de ville, seamaster, constellation and jumbo. I am quite interested in the jumbo ones , given their slightly bigger size. I have never owned a vintage piece and so I'd like to request your guidance, mainly in:
    - Where to buy (priority to EU shops / especially Belgium and Spain)
    - Approximate value/price for these pieces
    - What to expect in terms of service (price and frequency)
    - General advice

As an example, I'd like to know if the following piece is well priced: brusselsvintagewatches.com/produit/omega-30t2-or-jaune-18k-ref-2894-avec-boite-dorigine/ (sorry, can't post links yet)

    What am I looking for?
    - 35 to 39mm,
    - Mechanical (could consider automatic)
    - I prefer solid gold or stainless steel over gold plated.
    - Small seconds hand preferably.
    - Applied indices: batons and Arabic numerals mainly.
    - No date if possible.
    - Pink gold if possible.

Sorry for the long post, I hope you can guide me a bit here and perhaps offer some alternatives / new ideas.

    Thank you in advance!

    Jep.

I used to own a 30t2- beautiful piece and there are a bunch of Jumbos out there.
An alternative could be a Baume Mercier Clifton in rose gold - seems to check most of your boxes

35 to 39 mm is large for a rectangular or square watch. Even a square watch of 35mm on either side has a diagonal of 49mm.

Unless you have large wrists/like big watches i would suggest you look for smaller options. The nomos tetra comes to mind as a solid option measuring 29.5 mm on either side and can be found for 2k brand new and significantly cheaper on the used market.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry for the misunderstanding, the size I mentioned (35 to 39) does not apply to rectangulars.

For rectangulars I would like something above 27mm.

Thank you for your suggestion, I do not really like square watches...

Yes, not really my cup of tea, especially looking at the price. I feel like paying for the brand much more than for other ones...

    Thank you for your suggestion!

Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, I'm assuming that this is watch you will be keeping FOREVER...so consider getting it engraved-which means I would examine the case backs of your options for one that will be able to be personalized with names, date, message of love, etc.

Also with it being an engagement present I would buy new as opposed to used or vintage.

    Congratulations.

I would suggest something different, like looking at some Seiko SARBS and maybe a used GS.

Some of the JDM (Japanese Domestic Models) make very sweet, well finished, dress watches.

Some German brands might work as well.

I will tell you from experience, that if you like vintage watches, DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST, as there are lots of good and bad ones out there.

Buy the seller, not the other way around.

Also, if you find something you like use the search forum here to find numerous threads on everything you could want to know about a watch.

    Good luck.

I recommend this one. May be a touch out of range but considering such important event, this is for life.

Engraving in watches will be difficult at this price point. If Stowa has a watch to your liking ( I personally would recommend the antea Ks rose) they do offer engravings well within your price point. Their new limited edition partitios are also very nice.
