Confused ETA 2852 - No Quickset

My watch has an ETA 2852.

It does not have a quickset feature. I have to set the date by moving the hands. I stupidly set the day 2 days ahead.
Can I move backwards without harm to the 40+ Year old movement or should I let it die and wait 2 days?

I don't know about this movement, but on Nomos movements without quickset, you can go backwards without harm, but it doesn't change the date. The date changes when going forward only. Personally, I wouldn't risk it without expert advice.

Yes I don't think you can change the dates by turning the crown backwards.

Ignore the date. Enjoy the watch. Buy a calendar.

I’d be letting it run down and waiting the two days......

You can also wig wag the hands between 9:00 and 12:00. On some movements that will advance the date.
