    Ever been fooled?

So I was grabbing dinner and on the way out of the restaurant I saw a person wearing what I thought was a speedmaster. Lo and behold it turned out to be a bulova marine star chronograph.

I should know better being an omega fan, but unless I see the watch up close it's difficult for me to realize what the watch is. So I can be fooled from time to time.

    Re: Ever been fooled?

Lol, when I read about folks spotting a particular watch on a crowded train or on the wrist of a stranger a few barstools down....I’m always amazed. For me to positively ID a watch, it’s gotta remain dead-still for at least “2 Mississippi” and be within 26 inches of my nose under perfect lighting conditions. Even then, without my cheaters on I can’t tell Invicta wings from a Rolex crown. I don’t really get fooled anymore, because I can’t even play the game. I’d probably get arrested for trying.

I thought I ran into someone wearing an Oris which grabbed my attention. Turned out to be a Fossil.

Happens all the time. Some people call them homages, I call it the Michael Kors Effect.

Saw my boss wearing a Panerai Bronzo the other day.

Then realised it was mine, he had borrowed it and refused to take it off.

100% this. I constantly try to id watches, even on people sitting across the table from me. Unless they hold it dead still for a short period of time, they could tell me their fashion watch was a luxury brand and I would nod my head and smile.

Cleavage and watches have a lot in common. I try to not get caught, but I'm going to look. For the record, I've been fooled by both.
