Ever had a watch taken from you?

There are a few posts on here of late which have discussed watch values and the level of comfort an owner has whilst wearing high cost pieces. So, purely out of interest, has anyone had the unfortunate experience of being parted from their watch? Are you targeted or was it just bad luck?

I was definitely targeted - 4 years ago in Barcelona I had a watch 'lifted' from my person in a public street. It was incredible, the guy had a double clasp Breitling Superocean Heritage off my wrist in less than a couple of seconds - I didn't even feel it - until the weight had gone. I was fortunate enough to notice instantly and managed to trap the guy between two parked cars and a wall - and subsequently 'liberated' my watch. I was more concerned about his friends a couple of hundred feet down the road seeing what was going on, so unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to 'thank' him properly. In hindsight, I'm surprised he didn't just throw the watch to distract me.

I was fortunate to get my watch back, but the experience has made me a little more careful. My watches are all insured, but it's a crappy experience - so these days I'm a little more considered
in terms of where I wear higher value watches.

Raids on Swiss watch stores in London are now common place, and the number of people being mugged for their high value timepieces is a regular occurrence and on the increase - so I wouldn't be walking about with a Rolex - the thieves seem to have some knowledge of watch brands, perhaps due to social media / rap videos / the Kartrashians etc etc.

    Anyone else?

Once in the 70's, when I was in college, I was mugged at knifepoint. I gladly handed over my wallet and watch. I'm sure he didn't care what kind it was, it wasn't much if I can't even recall. He ran off with my stuff and I continued on to the laundramat to get my clothes. Lucky for him there were no parked cars and a wall nearby or I would have given him what for!

Just so you know, I call BS on the removal of a watch with a double clasp.

I've been robbed at gunpoint three times in my life, but never for my watch.

I did have a "friend" steal a watch from my house many years ago. Unfortunately, the watch was irreplaceable as it was a gift from my father upon his return from deployment.

I’m sceptical of the call as well however I’ll give the OP benefit of the doubt. In order for it to happen the watch would have to be super lose on the wrist to begin with.

My grandfather had a number of his watches stolen.

When he was alive he’d complain all about how I’d show up and steal his watches (when he’d give them to me)

Actually, I had a friend do this to me once in a night club.
I don't know how she got the skills but she had my watch in her hands before I noticed.
Of course it was just fooling around, so I got it right back, but I was highly (un)impressed!

    It's absolutely possible!

I have no reason to lie - I perhaps would have not believed it either, had it not happened to me - all I can say is Barcelona has some of the most skilled street thieves in the world.
