    Exotic leather and watch bands

FACT: I love exotic leathers on my wrist.

Gator, yes please. Ostrich, Yup! Shark skin, bring it on. If they made a platypus band and it looked good, I'd be all over it. I don't know if these forums have awakened a touch of watch snob in me or that I feel that a watch that's off the beaten path deserves a strap an equal measure of being different but I know this, I love nice leather bands and if the animal was obscure, it gets extra points.

Am I alone in this one?

P.S. Gun holster leather, old baseball gloves and other unique leathers might not have come from an obscure animal but they get the points still for being exotic in their own right. Keep that in mind in the poll.

Exotic? They're okay...but custom is where it's at...Custom is one of a kind, made for you...now, perhaps a custom exotic!!!!

Exotic watch straps are amazing. It all depends on the watch itself, for example a montblanc timewalker or a stowa airman look amazing with a gator strap but something like an Oris or a diver's watch would only look good with a nice clunky bracelet. Just my opinion...

    Mouthwatering...

Can't go wrong with an old style strap

    better with a bracelet

I don't mind leather, after all, domesticated cattle are bred for their meat and their hides.
I reckon the same is true of ostrich.

But I don't really like to see gators and crocs, stingrays and sharks, lizards and snakes, killed just for their hides.

ive developed a more expensive taste to watch straps, wouldnt say snobby.

my fav is a custom from Enzo Mechana i put on my Pam homage. super thick and i love that its worth more than the watch!

I hear what your saying and that's fair. Ostrich is domesticated and bred and I believe gators are as well to be honest. For the record, Gator tail is pretty yummy. I'm not promoting prodigious frivolties for the sake of decadence. I can't justify spending a grand plus on a watch for it's insides and give it a lame band, after all the outside is what you see (unless you have a skeleton.) For that money you deserve something both attractive and unique from the vanilla varieties.

I like what your thinking. A custom Ostrich band would be very sweet, right down my alley.

I like exotic leather and regular leather. I like that when I'm wearing my leather jacket, my watch, and my slippers, I'm wearing 3 different animals. (cow jacket, buffalo or shark watch band, and sheep slippers)

But, I'm definitely a fan of bracelets as well.

Re: Exotic leather and watch bands

I'm a bracelet guy all the way, but with the larger divers I tend to buy the stock bracelets they come with seem to be very plain and boring, so I keep them on nylon or leather straps (mostly nylon). I'm just not a fan of leathers, mainly because they leave those gaps, being flat ended when the watches are almost always round lugged. I hate those with a passion!
