Fake ALS (A Lange Sohne) or Vintage Pocket Watch?

    Hi everyone!

Looking at this eBay action for an ALS, but just can't put my finger on where this watch comes from. Haven't ever seen that hand style, with a sub on the left, in a vintage ALS on a wristwatch. I've seen similar in a pocketwatch, but the listing doesn't say much about it.

If anyone could help identify (or flag as a fakie), it'd be appreciated. Love the look, but don't wanna get ripped off.

RARE Vintage A Lange Sohne | eBay

    Thanks,

    - J

I don't think Walter would approve.

It does not look right to me but you should ask one of the gurus on a Lange forum or the German Watch forum. My first impression is made up from eastern europe.

The listing describes it as a a giant 54mm. If it's genuine, it definitely started life as a pocketwatch. But if that's the case, the dial pretty much can't be original (unless the subdial markers are on a separate piece that can be rotated, I guess?).

This is either a fake or a recased pocket watch.

In any case, a 54mm diameter is way too big for wrist wear.

It is a typical Ukrainian cottage creation.
A recased vintage PW movement. Newly fabricated dial. Worth zero. On the positive side, they do not claim it is a WW2 watch belonging to some famous General etc.

Interesting it has a plastic crystal in the caseback. Will scratch like mad!

    Too nice expression for this.

IF the movement is genuine( not seen a pic of it) then the idiot recaser basically removed all the value by separating it from the original ( assume Gold) case.

Threw away the dial and hands. Even if in bad condition, they are still restorable.

Gold case + movement + dial + hands = very valuable watch, much much more than the value of Gold + this p.o.s. creation.

On many of these creations the movement is not what they say it is.

Lots of times the old movements were separated from the case 80 years ago and have been stuck in some watchmaker's scrap hoard since. Hard to say if the movement itself is genuine but even if it is, it's questionable in my opinion to turn a pocket watch with no shock protection into a wristwatch. The balance cock isn't right, even if the rest of the movement is genuine.
It's not even a hunter cased movement which would at least have put the subdial in the correct spot. Most early pocket watch conversions used hunter cased movements.
