    Favre-Leuba Sea King- Help Please!!

    Hi all!

I'm thinking about buying a Favre-Leuba Sea King I found online and was wondering if it was another "mumbai special" as Favre-Leubas often are. Any help dating this watch would also be appreciated!

You should ask the seller about the diameter of the watch. Some of these were very small at 30mm. Most of the UK Favre Leubas originated from India, so you should expect the possibility of a funky redial. The shipping cost is very high as well. I would guess it is early sixties.

Severe Mumbaitis. The caliber 253 in this watch is dirty, as expected, and that movement wasn't made until the mid-60's--far too late for a WWII pilot-style watch. A watch with that movement should look more like this:

And I'm not sure how much I believe the Sea King above.

The caliber 253 movement dates it from 65ish to 70ish. Nice movement--maybe one of the nicest affordable vintage hand-wind movements. But India is a humid place and a lot of these have languished there.

The dial you pictured sure seems to have been painted and the luminous numerals bear no resemblance to any original that I've ever seen.
