Finally got it back from service!

Hey fellas. I just wanted to share my grandfather's 1956 Hamilton K-455 that I inherited a bit over a year ago. I think it's a fantastic piece and I really enjoy wearing it, as well as the family history that goes along with it. I recently got it back after about a month and a half or so. It was running before (I don't think it had ever been serviced), but I decided that I wanted it looked over because it had sat in a drawer from at least since 1978 (maybe even longer, I don't know) after my grandfather died (I never got to meet him).

I really like the vintage bracelet, but it's too large for my tiny wrist, so I think I'll either swap for a leather band or some alternative bracelet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here are some iPhone pictures. I'll try to take some high quality shots tomorrow if anyone would like them.

EDIT: Better shots are a few-ish posts down.

It's a beautiful watch. I have my grandfather's pocket watch and treasure it.
As for a strap, if the original strap can't be shortened or made to fit some other way I would say you can never go wrong with a nice brown or black alligator or crocodile strap with a vintage gold buckle. You may be able to find a buckle on the bay or on the Hamilton forum. Good luck and wear it in good health.

I also never met my maternal grandfather yet inherited his watch - a 40's rose gold Bulova. Heirlooms are the best, and yours is very nice.

That is a beautiful watch! I wish I had met my grandfathers as well, but they were both long gone before I was born.
The only watch I have that qualifies as an heirloom is my late father-in-law's Seiko; but rather than fret about it, I look at the opportunity to pass along my own watches as heirlooms someday.

    Wear yours in good health!

Very nice, love the lug design! The family history and personal association make it that much more special.

Sorry for the delay! Here are some better pictures that I have at the moment. You'll notice I swapped the original bracelet in favor of a lizard band. I wanted to preserve the bracelet, as the gold plating was peeling a bit on the bottom.

Not sure what's up with that greenish tint on the "3" and the hands. Kind of a cool picture defect.

And here it is with its best friend.

Well, the watch has been running superbly since I got it back. Unfortunately, I had to put it back in the watch box as I left for Colorado yesterday and I didn't want anything to happen to it if I took it along. I took my Swiss Army 24070 instead because it is my wilderness/survival watch. I'll be missing the Hamilton for the remainder of the week.
