First Major Watch Decision -- Nomos vs Glashütte Original

    Hello all,

I'm finally deciding on my first higher-end watch purchase.

By this point, I've narrowed it down to either a Nomos Orion Timeless LE with silver hands and indices:

or a pre-owned Glashütte Original Senator Hand Date with a silver dial:

I've put countless hours into the selection hours, become rather obsessed with watches, and visited quite a number of dealers, but simply cannot decide between these two. I also quite like the Nomos Orion 38 Datum (which could save me quite a bit of cash), and down the road hope to own a Speedmaster FOIS or an El Primero as well.

I understand that GO is in a different league from Nomos, but, then again, the Timeless LE is a rather special Nomos, and I would have to go pre-owned for the Senator HD.

Just curious to hear opinions of these and any other suggestions that I may be missing.

Thank you all. WUS has been an incredible resource for watch self-education over the past 6 months, and I am so glad that such a devoted, helpful community exists.

    Thanks again,
    inflictedpotato

Both are great pieces. The Glashutte Original Sixties are pretty sweet and slightly more "affordable."

There is no comparison, GO is on a different level. Have owned Nomos Orion Datum and still own GO senator sixties. There is huge difference in quality that more than justifies price difference

is the GO still 50%+ of the cost of the NOMOS even preowned (or am I terrible @ the googles)? I don't think theres a question of which watch has better build quality, it's just whether the additional cost + perceived disadvantages of purchasing preowned is worth it.

At the end of the day they're both great looking watches that are versatile enough to wear with anything and as long as it fits you well you can't go wrong!

Re: First Major Watch Decision -- Nomos vs Glashütte Original

I was a previous owner of a NOMOS and although the quality is amazing for it's price point, GO is on a whole different playing field.
Also, as a previous poster stated, I'd think even a pre-owned Senator will cost at least 50% more than a brand new Orion?

I'll have to go with the GO but this isn't a fair fight at all.

    ZENITH El Primero 36'000 VPH Tri-Color;
SEIKO Prospex Solar Tuna SBDN026 (1981/3000)

    Considerations:
    AUDEMARS PIGUET Royal Oak 15450
    A.LANGE & SOHNE Saxonia Thin 37mm

This is purely a matter of taste, but I'd prefer the Nomos out of those two because it's such a distinctive and coherent design. That particular GO is probably the least inspiring one I've seen in their collection; I'm sure it's meticulously crafted and finished, but from afar it looks like a very generic steel watch with a couple of subdials.
