General care for a Mechanical Automatic watch?

I have an Automatic watch that I love and want to be able to take care of it in the long run but it does not get much wrist time since I wouldn't want to wear it around to my work (I work in a hospital) and I have a daily beater for that.

Anyways, to the point! I have invested in a fairly nice winder (from a fellow WUS-er!) and I have just one spot on it for one watch so do automatic's need to be put on a winder all the time to have the springs well lubricated and to keep them running? I don't mind leaving it alone and letting it run out of power since I can pick it up and just set it and wind it but is that bad for the watch to stop/go with it in that sense?

Anyways, thanks for anybody's help! It's all appreciated!

I don't think leaving it for a few weeks would be an issue, but I'd wind it every month or so if it's not getting any wear. No need to leave it on the winder.

That's exactly what my watchmaker suggests.

My watches get exercise about every six weeks. I've seen no ill effects, and expect they will all far outlast me.

Perfect; thanks to y'all. I will sleep better at night not having to have it on the winder (especially since the winder isn't exactly too quiet). Thanks!
