General question about automatic watch ?

    Hi everyone,

I would like to ask a question abt automatic watch.

If other conditions are the same, how the change in particular conditions as follows will affect to watch timing ?

1/ the increase of degree (make watch go slow or fast)
2/ the using time of watch (longer time you use watch, it will be come more fast and slower

    Thank you,

I guess you mean, "Will the watch time keeping change with temperature?"

I think it is difficult to make one answer fit all watches. In principle, I
guess we might expect a watch to slow down as the temperature
increases. However, watches have balance springs made of different
materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE). Some
balance spring material is formulated to have a low TCE. In addition,
there may be some special balance wheels. For example, I have a pocket
watch labeled "Adjusted Temp. And 6 Positions". That makes more sense
if the balance would be made of two materials with different TCE, but I
    don't know.

In sum, I think the question is difficult. The best way to find out for a
particular watch might be to measure the rate vs. temperature.

2/ the using time of watch (longer time you use watch, it will be come more fast and slower

    Thank you,
This question might be interpreted multiple ways. I guess this means, "If
I wear the watch more hours of the day will it affect the average rate?"

Again the question is difficult, and the answer may apply only to specific
watches. Wearing the watch affects its temperature, which may affect
the rate. In general, the longer the watch is worn the more time it spends
closer to wrist temperature than when not worn.

In addition there may be positional differences in the rate. For example,
these instructions might apply to a Rolex watch:

Other positional variations might apply to other movements.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

The rate of a mechanical watch movement can increase or decrease with drop in temperature, depending how well they are adjusted to compesate for temperature. Generally, they have a tendency to speed up as temperature drops. (The balance spring gets shorter as the metal contracts in the cold)

Since the Chronometer grade and Top grade ETA 2824-2 and 2892A2 do not use a temperature compensating balance, and just rely on the invariability of Nivarox to temperature, I would guess any movememt fitted with a Nivarox balance spring should be in the 3/4 sec/day/degree C.

Are you talking about a change in temperature or a change in the position of the regulator arm?

I would like to ask a question abt automatic watch.

If other conditions are the same, how the change in particular conditions as follows will affect to watch timing ?

1/ the increase of degree (make watch go slow or fast)
Are you asking about the effect of temperature, time worn on the wrist, degree of swing of wrist, etc. on accuracy?

2/ the using time of watch (longer time you use watch, it will be come more fast and slower
Are you asking about the number of hours per day a watch is worn or the amount of physical activity?
