Is this a genuine Unitas 6497?

I've been viewing various internet photos trying to determine whether this ebay S. Coifman is using a genuine Unitas movement or not. The seller says he has papers but... any opinions?

That one looks pretty real to me.

Although, I did not know 6497 will fit into 41mm case..

Thanks. Strangely enough, I just found what looks like exactly the same watch except for it being marked as a Jurgen & Gallai with the seller stating the case diameter as 40mm. I do know that S. Coifman and Jurgen & Gallai were/are both valid brands.

If I recall correctly S. Coifman is owned by Invicta...so I would presume its a legit 6497

I suspect it's an ETA movement. I would really expect a legit company to be using the ETA movement and not the Chinese clone.

The machining on the Chinese clone isn't as good as the ETA, but I can only tell that if I'm using a strong loupe and have both versions side by side. I have yet to see a clone with the ETA logo stamped on the edge of the movement under the balance wheel.

It's a nice looking watch and if you get it anywhere near the current price it would be a great deal.

Sorry for the quick photoshop mess..

This isn't 100% as there are also a slew of "hybrid" movements using old recycled swiss base plates and a mish-mosh of chinese parts but I have yet to see any sort of reputable watchmaker using these movements.

It does fit a 41mm case, see Stowa Airman, Stowa Marine.

You are absolutely right as usual.

I Owned Stowa MO and did not think about it. (I guess it just looked/felt larger than 41mm)

Although I guess I am just used to 44mm size watches using the 6497.
