    Lightbulb German Pilot Watch Options

The fleiger bug bit me few months ago and to test waters I picked up a sterile dial sea gull powered small seconds manual wind 44mm. Wow I loved the design and aesthetics until I discovered it was little too large on my wrists. Its ok as long as you don't feel like it but since I started feeling it I want one at 42 mm or 40 mm. The decision to downsize is also very heavily influenced by my recent purchase of Hamilton Khaki Field chrono 38mm. So smaller the way for me at least in non dive watches.

I find the Stowa to be attractive but I want the diamond crown. So other options seem to be Archimede & Tourby. And I find Tourby to be too pricey for what they offer. They are so close to Stowa's price but doesn't quite have the history like Stowa.

Another option seemed to get German made parts and a Swiss movement and put them together. I hit a roadblock as I was not able to find Tourby type sub seconds dial at 6'Clock position. When I added the price it was close to 600$. Now Archimede retails for about 773 $ inclusive of shipping. What you guys think is the best option?

    Archimede link,

Any recommendations to find a German made dial?

I had a similar bug, but went lower end and got the 40mm Tisell Pilot. Miyota 90S5, blued hands, decent lume, sterile dial. Fantastic value for the 199 it cost, but not anywhere near the league of a Stowa. Still, I’m quite happy with it.

Brand new from STOWA. 40mm, under $700. (No diamond crown)
    Kind of a neat design.

I would also send an email to STOWA asking if you could get a diamond crown (like on the Testaf or GMT Flieger) put on your favorite Flieger.

Maratac mid-size? Haven’t seen one in the steel *eye roll* but they do look good for the price (can see one for $350 on watchrecon at the moment). I think they run a Miyota though and the crown is at 4 o’clock.
    Abandon all reason.

Auto or manual wind in 42mm.

    Case
Dark sandblasted stainless steel case with "FL23883" engraving Ø: 42 mm, height 13 mm, domed and anti-reflective Sapphire crystal, solid case back with engraving, waterproof up to 5 ATM, 20 mm lug width

    Dial
Numbers and indexes with Superluminova C3

    Hands
Heated blue st steel hands filled with Superluminova C3

    Movement
Hand winding movement Laco 01, basically an ETA 2801.2 (Elaboré)
    or
Automatic movement Laco 24, base ETA 2824.2 (Elaboré)

I own two out of their Flieger line already, both not „standard“ I admit

Me too. I have had a Stowa before and they are great but will try something different this time. Archemide is tugging me at the moment.

Quite understandable. Archimede offers the best value for money these times.

Pics taken when WUS visited the Ickler company in summer 2017, a picture thread is posted on our German Watches Forum.
