    GMT watch pet-peeve

I'm a big fan of GMT watches, especially the type where the hour hand adjusts independently (like most Seikos, JLC and a few others).

My beef is with the GMT watches that have an adjustable GMT hand and the 24-hr scale on the rotating bezel. Unless you have another 24hr scale on the dial, in which case you have a useful 3-timezome display, I don't see the point. Why waste the rotating bezel on the 24-hr scale if you can use it to print minutes so that it can be used for measuring of time? Anyone else agrees?

Agree, yes. Many do have 24 hours inside on the chapter ring in addition to the rotating bezel, which gives 3 time zones.

True GMT like, Seiko, Rolex and others have a quickset hour hand, which is great for globe trotters who change time zones often.

Not sure what ETA was thinking with the 2893 as quickset GMT hand is much less useful, as one needs to stop the movement to reset the hour hand when traveling.

The 2893 is better for tracking multiple timezones from one place, but it's not like it's some hardship to adjust when traveling. Where the Omega/Rolex/Seiko with the adjustable hour hand takes 10 seconds to change, the 2893 might take 30 seconds to change. It's not rocket surgery.

True, but stopping the 2893 movement to change the local hour ruins the exact timekeeping.

It's cheaper to have an adjustable 24 hour hand rather than a 12 hour hand. Most looking for a mechanical are not willing to pay the price of a Rolex, Seiko GS or Omega so they opt for the less expensive design.

The single best GMT movement with an adjustable 12 hour hand was the Seiko 8f56. A highly accurate quartz movement delivered 20 second per year accuracy, ran for 10 years on a battery, had a perpetual calendar and allowed independent adjustment of the 12 hour hand. Exceptional design that had a fairly long run.

The finer points on what type of GMT is best don't matter to me since I never use them (their only job on my wrist is to look good)

Your watch has a rotating bezel with 24-hr markers. Don't you think it would have been better if the 24-hr scale was printed on the dial and the bezel had a 60 minute scale for elapsed time measuring?
