Good time to buy a new watch - December / January?

I'm planning to buy myself a "christmas" gift (aka new watch) this year and I'm planning to buy it brand new. it doesn't matter if I get it before / after christmas as long as I can get a good price on it.
so in your opinion, when is a good time to buy a new watch at the end of the year? is it before / after christmas? or maybe January of the following year?
I probably going to get mine from online though, maybe Jomashop or similar GM online stores so is there any out there that runs a christmas / new year promotion?

    thanks in advance

It really depends on whether the store has special discount codes. It can be at Xmas or after. Usually it's at Xmas and Summer but sometimes they do wholesale on specific brands and that's unpredictable.

You're goal is to get the lowest price. During December there will be much competition, so prices will be marked down. In January, sellers are unloading their excess inventory, so prices will be marked down.

If you're going for a popular watch, suggest December. If you you're looking for a niche watch, go January,

Last year, December was a real boon for the GM dealers. I kept getting offers for watches I have not seen at the same price all year. They seemed to rise a little in January but still had really aggressive pricing. If you are looking for the best deal on a watch offered by the likes of Ashford, Jomashop, etc I would say anytime between black Friday and Xmas is likely the best time to buy. As stated though, the GM dealers can be somewhat unpredictable.

The best time to buy is when no one else is buying... with high end watches some people buy them as a christmas present, but others wait and use their tax return, or year end bonus, so winter and into spring can be very good for a retailer. But I have to ask, why buy/pay retail? I havent payed retail for a watch since the Swatch boom in the early 90s, there are plenty of reputable grey market dealers out there (many on this forum)

Post Christmas is usually a good time for sales though you need to keep your eyes open in December too.

But stock depletion is also an issue starting around mid December.

You may see somewhat better prices in early January...and certainly, shipping considerations say either before about Dec. 10th, or after Xmas. But, the bigger cuts tend to be pretty spotty. I can't really recall the equivalent of "January White Sale prices!!" from GM sellers...not of the across-the-board, 30% off everything variety.
