Got watch back from service, 1cm long scratch on back crystal

Just got my Zenith El Primero HW back from service at my local watchmaker and did not notice until I got home there is a 1cm scratch on the back sapphire crystal. They are closed for now and will go back in next weekend to see if I can get this addressed. I'm sure this happened to others before, just wondering what outcome you had (e.g. did they replace the crystal, etc.?) I have the estimate from them prior to completing the service and they noted dry lubrication and scratched case but no mention of scratched crystal.

I thought sapphire couldn't be scratched and rather, it would shatter with enough "scratching force"?

Common myth. Sapphire will scratch. Also the Anti reflective coating will scratch even easier (but will be more faint)

I have never had a problem but:

These days with watch and car servicing I take photos before I hand it over, and on pickup.

No one can argue about that dent, scratch, or oily fingerprints when its on one photo but not on the other.

Sapphire will scratch if you scrape something harder than sapphire against it. A diamond, like one set in a ring, will do it. As will a carbide tool. Another piece of sapphire could potentially scratch it as well.

Oy. Maybe it's just a smudge on the inside of the crystal.
Otherwise, try being nice first. If that fails, lose your shirt and go Hulk smash!

You would have to have every photo clearly "time stamped" by having something such as that day's newspaper as part of the picture--for each and every one--otherwise, anybody can dispute your "evidence" by suggesting you took them at a far earlier point in time--you MUST be able to prove that you didn't. This kind of evidence is rarely accepted as valid proof of anything--a kind of false security. As for the OP, as others have suggested, it seems like it is your word against theirs--best of luck.

    Any pic?

Does the crystal have double AR coating?
