    GPHG 2017 Winners

This is a follow up to this thread : https://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/gphg...s-4534303.html

The Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve is a yearly competition focusing on new watches, and giving awards in 15 categories. The focus is usually high end, though there is one "affordable" category dedicated to watches retailing for less than 8000 francs.

Nominees in 12 categories were announced back in September, and about a week ago the winners were announced. (Including categories whose nominees weren't announced - Revival Watch, Innovation, and the Grand Prize.)

EDIT : I thought the Grand Prize winner was not a watch from any of the category nominees, but I was incorrect. But the Grand Prize winner was not also the category winner, so there were sort of two "Mechanical Exception" winners...

And two wins for Bvlgari Octo's, and two for Parmagiani are interesting to see. Two for Chopard too, including the Grand Prize.

Here is the winners page : Prize list 17 | GPHG

Nice picks. Especially "proud" of Parmigiani and Bvlgari for making strong showings.

And Chopard. One might argue the jewelry prize is...not lesser, but the watch is not front and center, to a greater degree than even the artistic crafts. But pulling off the gold medal is worth more, so that all balances out. :)

None of these three would be household names, but the Tonda Meteorite dials, the Octo Ultranero with red gold hand/indices, and some of the LUC collection are quite high on my "if I won the lottery" watches list. Especially for when you want a watch to test the pretension of salespeople. :)

There is usually a good mix of price ranges included in many of the categories. Frederique Constant had one of their world timers picked in the travel watch group.

The brown dialed version was entered.

That's one of the nicer looking worldtimers out there... huh. I need to pay more attention to them.

The Longines Big Eye is a homerun. That's going to be a very tough one to pass on at a street price of approximately $2K.

My wife loved the KV when I showed it to her the other day. Thankfully not enough to trade me in for a new spouse who can afford it.

It's very nice. And it's a "manufacture" movement - made by FC. As such it's a bit more expensive, at a bit north of $4000. The Louis Vuitton in the same Travel Time category is also not super expensive (relatively speaking) at about $7500 I think.
