Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève award: Switzerland you can do better.

Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (Watchmaking Grand Prix) is the name of the annual watchmaking prize as well as the organisation that runs it. The jury for 2019 has just been announced.

    That's Prix d’Horlogerie Grandma!

I get that watches go on wrists but check out the award - that thing is damn ugly.

Inexplicably it even has black nail polish.

Hands and arms can be weird things out of context.

But they can also be rendered beautifully.

Really it looks like they just grabbed an arm from a store mannequin dummy.

We know the Swiss can do this - afterall we adore those beautiful watches they create. Don’t forget it was the Swiss that came up with the Helvetica font.

And the splendidly and purposely designed Swiss army knife

No Jamie you can’t. This is a prestigious award for those that have achieved outstanding success in the watch industry.

The award respects wonderfully creative minds so surely the award should honour that. Instead of something that looks like it belongs on a counter in a nail salon. Can the industry do better? If you got the design brief for this award what would you create?

You know, I follow the GPHG awards results every year, but I'd never seen the actual award. It's weird!

I think it looks good. Having been to the GPHG awards several times, I have never heard anyone there complaining about the trophy.

Good post - Totally agree - first saw the thing earlier this year and thought the trophy bizarre -
