Grandmother's old watch - Helbros Quartz - Is it old??

Hello! I am Brand new here! Wondering if anyone with ANY knowledge about watches at all (more than me) can help me determine if this watch is a vintage Helbros or worth nothing! Also - Is there any way to know if the band is real gold?

I can not get very good photos. So I will briefly describe wording.

On back says HELBROS BASE METAL BEZEL, STAINLESS STEEL BACK, 12821, Y588 85-3

PLATE INSIDE SAYS HELBROSWATCH, NO Y588, NO JEWELS, UNADJUSTED

INSIDE OF BACKING SAYS HELBROS, Y588, MADE IN HONG KONG

Can anyone tell me if this is garbage or worth another look? My Grandmother had VERY expensive jewelry so I wanted to make sure.

Thank you for any help I can get!

Quartz watches aren't old - at least not vintage. Yours, made in HK, does not look old either. If there is no gold mark (8k, 14k 18k) there is some reason to assume it is not gold.
BTW: We do not give evaluations here on WUS, you need to look for references on ebay.
    Kind regards

No one in their right mind, when manufacturing a watch, would put a golden wristband on a watch with "BASE METAL" bezel, "NO JEWELS" etc.

My mother has some pretty expensive jewellery too, however, she wears affordable watches - Bulova, or some Japanese stuff like Alba, costing around 100 bucks.

Not everything that is old can be named "vintage" and has value.

Junk if we talk money, but with a sentimental high value. If you loved your Granny.

Depends on what your definition of old is. Since it's quartz, it should be no older than about 1970 max. Totally agree with keybers. It'd be very strange to see a real solid gold band on a watch that mentions base metal. At best it may be gold plated. Are there any tiny wear marks where there might be base metal showing? I prefer things that were passed down and it would be a definite keep for me if I knew for a fact that it belonged to family.
