    Gravity, awesome movie, awesome watch

I just saw the movie Gravity when it came out on Thursday, and again today.

In addition to being one of the suspenseful sci-fi thrillers to come out in a long while, we got to see a speedmaster on a nato strap on George Clooney's astronaut wrists.

    How beautiful and fitting!

That's cool! Maybe they got it right for a change. I remember in War of the Worlds when the arrival of the aliens was causing electronic components to shut down, and Tom Cruise was tapping his stopped watch. The only thing is, it wasn't a quartz watch but a vintage manual wind Omega

Great movie . I saw it in 3D on a regular movie screen, but wish I had waited to see the IMAX version.

I've heard the film is very, very good. They even "invented" many new techniques in the filmimg process. Looking forward to watching it.
Clooney is an Omega ambassador. Not a surprise.

It's rated 98% on rotten tomatoes, a homerun score .

Can anyone tell what model it is? looks so different from the speedmasters at the Omega AD.

Yet another reason to finally pull the trigger on a Speedy Pro...

I saw it today in IMAX 3D, but I must have blinked because I didn't see a Speedy anywhere. At one point I saw a backup watch being worn on the inside wrist, outside his suit (on a NASA strap, not a NATO), and it looked like an analog chrono but it was only in frame for an instant and wasn't in focus... but it definitely wasn't a Speedy Pro. All the watches I saw being worn were huge, generic digital watches with no markings.

Re: Gravity, awesome movie, awesome watch

Sorry guys, it was a very over-hyped movie.

    Pros:

    * Good 3D experience, puts you in the astronaut's frame of mind
    * Good graphics

    Cons:

    * The story line and dialogue was boring.
    * Much of the physics is bullsh!t, aside from drifting and tumbling in space. Ignore the points below if you're okay with 'Hollywood physics'.

    * One exploding satellite does not trigger a change reaction as there are no explosives packed in satellites (conservation of energy).
    * Shrapnel pieces were way too large and densely packed. Also high velocity shrapnel does not 'smash up' space vehicles, it either dents or pierces like bullets.
    * It's highly unlikely to find so many space vehicles from different countries in a relatively small volume of space.
    * You can't just push buttons randomly and expect a space vehicle to do something meaningful.
