I just picked up a couple watches from repair at Universal Jewelry and Watch service in Birmingham, Michigan.
True to their ad, they are a fine factory service center for Citizen. I had them do an inspection, reseal and pressure test on my C-650 Skyhawk. The watch came back to me beautiful with a year warranty. Jerry and Effam (sp.) were very nice to deal with. A lot nice horological merchandise in those show-cases as well.
The BIG story, here, though is that Effam agreed to take a close look at a "Germ-Asian" with a "standard movement" problem. I was turned away by another very good watchmaker on this one. He said he's "been burned too many times by those(Asian) movements" and would really rather not get involved with it. I even offered a parts-donor movement to work with (graciously provided by one of our own fine, upstanding members here).
Though the Skyhawk is certainly the finer watch, this little "Germ-Asian" has sort of "captured" me.
Effam repaired it splendidly and didn't "take my face off" price-wise. He wasn't too fond of it, but took up the challenge (the price must have been right)(and the movement not very complicated). Yes, I have too much into it, now, but.....I'm happy.
One other important note: Effam is a watchmaker from Russia! I'll likely be seeing him again with one of my Russian collection in the near future......
I really like working with people who know what they're doing and this guy DOES!
