Depends from which era you are referring to. My understanding is Hamilton was a high-end brand in the 20s and 30s and 40s. Now it is a low-end premium brand. They are still nice though. I love my mate's gmt. Just stay away from any endorsed by Harrison Ford.

Hamiltons were among the best made if not the best made American watches. American Hamilton movements are beautiful and in my opinion will compare favorably with any higher end Swiss watch. Since becoming Swiss I consider them to be well made watches of excellent value using plain workhorse ETA movements, especially those of contemporary manufacture. Your really can't compare the watches of the two eras as sizes and styles are very different.

Some of us vintage Hamilton collectors consider Patek Phillipe to be the Swiss Hamilton or Hamilton to be the American PP.

Any swiss ETA movement is not bad after all. At least they beat at minimum 28,800bpm...

I own two Hamiltons with the swiss Valjoux 7750 movement, so I dont know why anyone can say that they use low grade movements. I consider the 7750 to be one of the best available right now, with the exception of some of the ultra high end movements.

I agree. Low grade will be those beating at 21600bpm.

Vaj7750 beating at 28800bpm can hardly be call low grade.

Then it comes down to, which would you rather have? That would make a
    good poll.
