Hamilton maestro auto chrono Vs Longines heritage 1954

Both are chronographs, both have a valjoux 7750 movement. both are AROUND the same price. Which would you pick? please DO take into account brand reputation and legacy.

I'll be shocked if Longines doesn't run away with it. But in reality the Longines is probably $1000 more so that should factor in.

Actually, here (EU) the Hamilton is slightly more expensive than the Longines.

I'm just looking at the usual spots online grey market and the Hammy comes in significantly cheaper.

    Ok. Didn't know that.

My vote would be for the Longines, IF that dial wasn't so cluttered up. Way way too busy with..count 'em... three separate scales and three counters crowded in where one scale and two counters would be just right.

Dressy chronographs are not really my thing, but I think the high polish on the Longines helps in that regard. I've also been disappointed in the past with Hamilton's reluctance to use AR coatings (not sure about this model).

I own a Heritage 1954, but with the panda dial, so I'm biased. It's impressive for the price and, in my opinion, better looking than the Hamilton.

I had the Hammy and sold it to fund another piece. It was very nice, and was a cheaper version of my grail, the IWC Portuguese chrono. The only real qualms I had were the thickness, and the strap was very stiff.

I cant speak to the Longines, but I am definitely a fan of the brand in general. But the dial is too cluttered. I would suggest the Conquest Classic Chrono with the black dial. It's gorgeous and it just came out. Don't know how thick it is.
