    Hamilton Otis: Before the Reverso

Has anybody seen the hamilton otis? They made a reverso like watch before JLC I believe, like this one:

Does anybody have one? Or ever seen one? These go from over $1000! Anybody ever even heard of one?

Yea, I don't think this is very common watch. I've only heard of it recently.

    Actually, not really.
The Reverso is a JLC patent from 1931. JLC designed the watch on request from British Army Polo players, (in the Raj or India), they needed a watch where the crystal was protected from the possible impact from the mallet and the wooden ball.

It is one of the first watches, if not the first, that is designed as a "sport watch".

(To those without knowledge of Polo, you play it on horseback, use a wooden mallet to drive a wodded/plastic ball across a large field, trying to hit the ball into the goal. Each part of the game is called a Chukka.
It is a very demanding and a quite dangerous sport, both for the player and the animal.
Broken limbs and bones are not uncommon!
Extremely interesting sport to watch, one of the sports I loved watching when living in UK.)

Hamilton made this watch in the 1930ies, without any licensing or agreement with JLC.
JLC forced H. stopping making this watch style. (patent infringment).
So basically it is a hommage watch. If you compare the Hamilton with a JLC Reverso, you can see that the Hamilton is a very, very close copy of the JLC, the shape and design of the outer case including the swivel system, the serrations on the watchcase, the dial, yes, even the proportions.

Still, it is a very beautiful watch, well worth collecting!

    But still very beautiful!
I guess JLC guards the Patents far more these days. Hence we see no hommages of the Raverso, which is a great pity.

Actually, this watch is similar, but not exactly the same like the hamilton. The face or the thing that swivels moves differently, so it isn't against the patent.
