Have you ever 'blown the budget' on an unexpected watch that has an 'unnecessary' complication?

So I thought I had things kind of planned out, I was going to wait to check out the next VC Overseas & Cartier Drive in person before making my next purchase decision. Then comes along Baselworld!

I've had a difficult time getting the new Rolex ceramic Daytona out of my mind! The thing is I'm not the biggest fan of chronographs & have actually bought & sold an Omega Speedy Pro several times! I've also never considered the current Daytona as I'm not a fan of the current bezel or the legibility issues. That being said, I never thought I'd need a GMT but now have two both of which are my favorite watches!

Has anyone else bought a watch that you didn't see coming?

I was only planning on spending less than A$2k on a basic 3-hander with date (and maybe day) dress watch for my wedding anniversary watch. In the end, I came back with a dive watch with a chronograph chronometer instead and doubled my spend. Am quite happy I did though (even though I don't tend to use the chronograph complication often) as the build quality on this is way better than the other watches I was looking at.

Hasn't happened but if/when it does it'll probably be an annual calendar along the lines of the Lange Sax AC or maybe even a perp as in Montblanc though it's not likely to happen anytime soon (too many others vying for adoption) . . .
