    Help with Hamilton or marathon

Thinking of only spending around 600.00 on a new watch.. My 2 final contenders are the marathon jsar jumbo diver watch or a simple Hamilton field kak... Hamilton is automatic and marathon is quartz..

Quartz are OK...I like the cleaner look of the Hamilton.
I'm quite sure the lume is better on the Marathon (looks like allot)
It really boils down to your likes.....Right?

Re: Help with Hamilton or marathon

I own the mechanical (hand wind) version of the Hamilton as well as an older white faced auto version. I also own a Marathon GSAR (the auto version of the JSAR).

No reason you shouldn't be able to get a used GSAR at your price point or a Hamilton somewhat below. You can get the Hamilton as a 38, 40, 42, or 44 auto; a 40 mechanical; or a 38(?) quartz. So the quartz/auto argument may not hold.

Anyway, I love them both and get a lot of wear out of both but I get much more wear out of the Hammy. It is an all around more versatile look and the fact that it is around 11mm thick to the Marathon's 14 or so helps it farther into the formal end. I've also found that on the stock rubber the weight of the Marathon means I need to really cinch it down to prevent it from twisting -- thankfully the stock strap is super soft and comfortable, but it isn't how I would ordinarily wear my watch.

For some it doesn't matter but I like a watch with a little history and Hamilton has a more interesting/longer history IMO.
