    Confused Help me!!!

    Hey guys

Really have anxiety about this watch I just bought. It looks semi-authentic. Text looks weird and markings and lugs? Also why is "AUTOMATIC" on the dial?Name: image.jpg

    Welcome.

Why are you particularly concerned about it saying automatic on the dial? This is very common on automatic watches.

As for authenticity, I'm sorry I'm not able to help.

Sorry but I can't help you out either. A lot of watches say "automatic" on the dial.

    Help me!!!

Aside from being really dirty inside, it looks really good to my untrained eye.

    Re: Help me!!!

Do not know what a semi-authentic watch is about or could be about. it is authentic or it is not.
Yours is a cal. 22A powered 14k Longines. The lugs are typical for the time and do look authentic. "Automatic" is printed on the dial because it is an automatic watch, btw. the first automatic movement Longines made. A mile stone though. The 22A was launched in 1945 (see story data on Longings web site for more info). it dates back to the early 50s and most likely needs cleaning, lubricating, adjusting.

Returning ? Why ? you most likely got what you payed for - a vintage Longines in need of an overhaul.
    Kind regards
    Mike

Why would you return it? What did you expect?

    Re: Help me!!!

I have no idea what semi authentic means.

    What you have:
looks like a very late 1940's era Longines
looks like a genuine 22A movement that needs serviced
the dial is probably original or was redone many years ago
the case is apparently 14 K solid gold (I believe 14k were cased in the United States, 18k in Switzerland)
the watch was NOT babied at some time in it's life
the crown may be original but in it's present condition needs replaced anyway
the hands certainly seem to "match" the style of the watch and were common back then. May be replacements though I doubt it.

What I don't understand is why you would return it ASAP. You obviously liked it enough to buy it in the first place. You must have seen pictures of it beforehand. If you are expecting a 100% perfect watch from that time period you are going to have to look long and likely pay more. To my eye that one doesn't look bad at all however. In fact, I'd say it looks "semi-good".
