Help me choose a watch for my 40th bday and 2nd son!

    Hello y'all,

I have been agonizing for the past year trying to decide on my next watch -- I need your help!

    What I currently have:
    - IWC Portuguese Chronograph gold hands (ref 3714)
    - Rolex BLNR

    What I'm considering this year:
    - Rolex Daytona white dial (ref 116520)
    - Rolex OP 39 white dial
    - Omega Seamaster Railmaster black/gray dial from 1-2 years ago

What I'm planning on getting in the next 5-10 years:
    - Journe Chronometre Bleu

So, situation is that I have lusted after a Daytona for many years. The ceramic one came out, which I was all hot and bothered about until I later realized that I like the steel bezel more. It would be a great watch to get, but $14K+ is perhaps a little more than I want to spend at the moment, and I think I would try to be too careful when wearing the Daytona.

Then, there's the OP 39 white...the advantage over the Daytona is that I wouldn't mind banging it up so I'll probably wear it more often, and it's a little over a third the price of the Daytona. It would also be the most casual watch, which is something I'm looking to add to my collection. The IWC and BLNR, while not flashy, also aren't exactly the most understated.

Then, the Omega Railmaster would be the ultimate beater and casual watch, at half the price of the OP 39 (used of course). Looks great right now, but a little questionable if I would keep this in my collection in the long run -- ideally, whatever watch I get I would hold onto forever (i.e., pass on to my kids at some point).

So, I don't feel the need for a dress watch at the moment because I plan to get one as my next watch. Daytona is my dream, but a tad pricey and at risk of not being worn a ton. OP 39 is a great watch at a reasonable price, but not my dream watch -- just a very solid one. Railmaster is possibly my "flavor of the month" but a very good price point (would feel no guilt getting).

I'm not sure how to decide / think about this. What do you guys think I should do?

I think if you bought an OP or the Railmaster either one would be your third favorite watch...is that what you really want as a 40th BD/2nd son gift to yourself?

Have you had your 2nd child yet?
If your 2nd son is here already take him to the store and let him pick for you, dangle them in front of him see whitch one he goes/reaches for, bingo! That's the one. If he's not here then get the OP. . Happy Birthday & congrats on your new son.

A white dial Milgauss could be a funkier / more casual option than a white dial OP39, and the quirkiness of the Milgauss could be a point of encouragement for you to keep it long term.

+1. They look really unique in person.

I'd get the Daytona. It will just be cheaper to get it now instead of getting the others then eventually selling them to possibly fund a Daytona down the line. I know guys who use Daytonas as beaters (wish I could) and you could always have it serviced before the warranty expires or insure it, but if I had your 2 watches plus a Daytona, I think I'd make the BLNR the beater.

Thanks all. Have never seen that white dial Milgauss in person...not sure how I would remedy that. I think I'm getting closer to just saying F it and going for the Daytona.

Any suggestions on where to look for a solid one that hasn't been polished?

Daytona. And don’t worry about bashing it. The Daytona falls into the “watches that are meant to be worn” category

Having the Portuguese as a dress watch and the BLNR as a sports one I would go with the rail master as a more casual option. That grey dial is very appealing
