Question Help me find an old watch - Timex Military Winding Watch

Back in the 80's, I recall Timex had a plastic bodied drab green military style watch that looked like those old WWII watches and as I recall, it was a winding watch. Does anyone know which watch this was?

I believe MacGyver wore this watch on the show and I even bought one from a store, but got tired of winding it daily, so my dad bought me a Lorus quartz watch as a replacement.

No, I asked him, and he said he returned it to the store since it was such as shabby watch. My dad buys/collects medium to high end Japanese and Swiss watches and it was an anathema to him that I would choose a cheapie Timex as one of my first watches.

    Actually, I recall what happened.

It was 1987, and we returned the Timex military watch and my father bought me a gold two-tone Seiko watch (which cost about $200 back then), so here I was wearing this super expensive (to me) watch to middle school. But I was so scared of getting a scratch on it, I obsessed about it. Well after a few months, I told my dad that I didn't want that watch, it was then that he took me and bought a Lorus quartz leather strap watch, which I wore until I got out of college. The funny thing is that my father still has and still occassionally wears that two-tone gold Seiko that he bought for me in 1987.

That was one good thing growing up in a household headed by a WIS. My father would always encourage us to buy watches, and on many occassions, I recall he'd buy a watch for us and actually it would be for him. We would not want it because it was too expensive or too gaudy and he'd just keep it. One good thing about my dad is that he was generous with watches. He has bought good quality watches for almost everyone in our family here and in India. No one even remotely related to him ever got by without gettting at least a nice Seiko or a Swiss watch as a gift from him.

Sounds like you are talking about the Timex camper. It is a mechanical wind-up and I got it for ~$15 on eBay. It is a great little watch and the lume still glows!

The 77 on the back is the date code. It was made in May, 1991.

    gigfy, you rock!

    That's the watch.

Could you pop open the back and take a picture for me?

I looked on eBay and other places....it seems this winding one is hard to find.

Most of the ones I found are quartz.

    You're welcome.

I've been told that the movement inside the camper is a #24 calibre. It has a one piece case so I've never taken the movement out.

Very cool. Thanks for that. Now if I can only find one for sale and that does not cost $45-50.

    Haha.

I do have one. in 1993 I had an store of watches and I got some but I kept one for me. Actually Iam looking for another one based in the fact that if in future there are no batteries, watches will not work.
