    Horrible strap/watch combos

Have you seen any strap/watch combos that were so bad they could be considered sacrilege? I recently saw this one on ebay, just plain awful...

You're right, that is pretty bad.

While not in the same league, this one was strange enough I left it "as is".

+ 1,000,000 to especially a Rolex on a nato or zulu. When I see pics posted of those combos on this forum, I'm like "what are thinking??" Why would you put a gorgeous high end watch on a nylon $15 strap?

I think that watch Cottontop posted a while back with that tiny little Zoro watch on that gigantic bund strap was pretty hilarious, and fugly

Gonna hafta disagree here. I think the submariner type watches and other diver watch designs look great on a thick Zulu with round rings. It doesn't really matter what brand or how much the watch costs, it's about form, function, and style. I think the Zulus are very sporty and stylish, with endless color options, and more importantly they also offer a lot more protection from losing the watch if one of the spring bars were to pop out. If you lose a spring bar on a traditional two piece strap, say goodbye to the watch.

Quite right. If you ever actually dive with a diver's watch the Zulu/Nato/WP is the most practical design.

Practicality aside, NATO straps look great dress-down, can be changed in seconds for different colours and actually suit some watches better than any other type of band. As for high-end watches, I think it makes a interesting statement. Either that the watch is a utility piece that's put to work in its intended purpose or that you are a relaxed dresser (perhaps an outdoor type) that just digs nice watches.

In any case, James Bond wore a Rolex on a NATO and is the coolest man in history. That's good enough for me!

You must be joking. I'll admit that a thin NATO strap can be far from good-looking on certain watches. But that type of strap wasn't designed with fashion in mind. As for the Zulu, they can be just plain too thick at times to slip between the springbars of many watches. But a Zulu strap is also made to be pragmatic.

Actually, no he didn't. When "Goldfinger" came out, the NATO strap design hadn't been invented yet. 007 wore that Rolex on a one-piece strap with a cloth keeper. Other than the buckle itself, there wasn't any metal on the strap.
