    How beat is your beater?

Seems like most of us have a beater watch. This is mine. I've had it for a few years, and it's been a loyal companion through some "rough" times.

I'm on my second strap and second battery. The scars and scrapes tell the stories of many adventures, hard work, and maybe an accident or two. It's been a sidekick in adventures on 2 continents, and met many rocks, tools, automotive parts (shade-tree wrenching), and the crystal has a few melted spots from weld spatter. I've considered replacing this one with an automatic beater, but as I cleaned some rusted steel with muriatic acid this afternoon, I decided to buy another one of these to keep in reserve. I've owned a couple of G's, and a Suunto, but this one just does something for me.

I love it because it is robust, lightweight for it's size (I originally bought it for running), functional, and it's been a reliable tool. It's my only digital, and I have no intentions of replacing it until it goes up to digital watch heaven with it's fallen watch brothers and watch sisters.

This is my Nike Oregon WA0018. Tell me about your beat beaters. As always, bonus points for pics...

This full lume Lorus quartz has been my cheap beater for the last year or two. It cops the hard stuff - yard work, beach fishing etc, but is still holding up well except for the crystal which is starting to show alot of chips. The Armitron was my previous beater and is now in watch heaven. It lasted many years but didn't survive building a house.

    RipCurl S/S 17534
Wore this one 24/7 for 11 years until I discovered WIS'dom.
Case has a tiny Ronda 1 Jewel movement inside, swimming around a great void expanse, but I only ever had to adjust it for battery changes and daylight savings. It has seen 3 continents, twice daily showers, the surf, everything that I did. I never took it off.
It also did not gouge my wrist like a lot of other watches do, perhaps due to the crown being at 4 o'clock. I keep it to this day.
This photo makes it look better than it actually is on the crystal that is.

I've got two crystals with welding/grinding burns on them. Both times I just forgot I was wearing the watch.

That's exactly what I did, forgot to pull the sleeves down and cover the watch!! I guess G-shocks have some kind of plastic cover over the crystal because I had holes burned all over the crystal!! Unless it was actually melting the glass, which could be a possibility!?!?

My beat to heck Bulova LCD, it's remarkable that it actually runs, got it during a thrift store score, the LCD display is blotchy and caved in, the case is shot as is the crystal but I love it, trying to find another of the exact type. Wish me luck.

    Peace,

My beater's pretty beat, but it has a right to be.

It's a Citizen; not sure of the model, but it's quartz. I bought it at the Navy Exchange, at Naval Training Center San Diego, back in the mid 80's. I wore it every day for ten months while deployed to the Persian Gulf during and after Desert Storm. It's been through sand storms, 125 degree heat, and it kept on chuggin'. I need to get a new battery for it.
