How do mechanical watches react to airport detectors?

Will be travelling soon with one watch. One that I'll be wearing at all times, including passing thru airport security.
questions: should I wear the watch thru the metal scanner? And is it safe to place it in the bin thru the X-ray scanner?

They will ask you to run it through the scanner and it won't affect it at all. I am in and out of courthouses almost every day and they run my watches through with no problems.

i usually place my watch into my carry on bag/brief case and put it through the X-Ray. Better that then placing it on a tray with my shoes, belt, loose change etc. I put it back on the wrist after i clear security.

Watches don't come off when going through the whole body scanners where you raise your arms. If you have to remove it, I used to put mine down in my shoe. OK to run it through xray.

I typically just wear mine through. I have never been asked to remove it.

While in some cases you can put it in your bag, if you are going overseas it makes sense to wear it and dump it in the little container with your keys so you don't run into someone saying that you need to pay customs thinking you bought it overseas.

mine didn't react at all. It seemed pretty nonplussed about th whole affair.

They react as one would expect... A sublime combination of shock and anger, followed by justification (airports are cold?)

I used to take it off and put it in a shoe until that fateful day about 8 years ago when I dropped one while removing it. Now I wear mine through with nary a problem.
