How do you match your watches to your outfits?

I LOVE diver watches, so I often just match the color of the dials to what I am wearing. I also have leather banded watches, and metal braceleted watches. With metal bracelets, I do the same. With leather straps, I just don't know what to do. If it's a formal event, I go classic black leather strap and white dial. If it's casual, I give myself more latitude with which watch I'm wearing. I just heard that some people match the strap and not worry about the dial, while others just match the strap, while others only match the dial. So, WUS'ers, how do you match your watches to your outfits? Thanks in advance for your replies!

The strap is normally match to my belt or shoes. Dial normally coordinate or matches my shirt.

The most formal I've ever had to reach, is business dress...and I could get away loosely even there. The joys of being the tech expert. :) That also means that I can be relaxed with the watch face...my Nomos Tangente, with its ruthenium (brown-gray) dial is fine for a brown shirt, while my Oris Thelonius Monk, with a navy blue shell cordovan strap, is fine for anything in the white, black, gray, or blue ranges. I'll connect the watch with the shirt...then the pants (tan or navy) with the shirt. Belt and shoes, to the minimal degree they mattered, would connect with the pants.

I do not attempt to match dial colors to any of my clothes. If in a very formal situation (i.e. job interview), I wear a dress watch on a black strap which matches the black shoes I will be wearing in such a situation. That is the only rule I follow, or can be bothered to follow...

    Same here

My watches are quite basic tho so it's not much of an issue.

I do know some who go all out with the color matching especially with those funky GShocks.

Re: How do you match your watches to your outfits?

Sometimes I'll wear an outlandish orange-dial/orange-strapped watch that has no business being worn with any outfit I own. I can usually pull those off (at least I think I can lol), because I'm typically a reasonably confident person (please don't read into that as 'egotistical jackass').

Otherwise, I'll try to at least match the strap with shoes. And on rare occasions for example, a blue-dial watch with a blue shirt with its brown strap matching brown shoes/belt (and other such similar color combinations).

Mostly tie style with clothes. So divers and sporty watches with casual clothes. Dressier watches with more formal attire and sometimes with casual clothes. Try to match leathers.

Re: How do you match your watches to your outfits?

I usually just match the strap with the belt and shoes. Guess that with a bracelet it's more about the dial. While I like it when every part of my outfit matches the other, when I just wear my leather jacket and a Guns N' Roses t-shirt, I do sometimes pick a random watch without thinking much about the dial or strap matching the jacket, the shirt, the belt or the shoes(but I do somehow feel that my OCD rebels at that).

Generally I don't even worry about it. I like to think of the 'regular' guy who owns one watch and wears it with everything they own. Then I can just wear whichever watch I want, with anything, whenever.
