    How good is Fortis?

It seems as though no one talks about Fortis very much. They are certainly attractive watches at what seem like reasonable prices. What opinion do you have of them? How do you compare them to Sinn and Tutima?
    Thanks a lot,
    David

    Hi -

I've had a Fortis Aviator for around 11 years now and it keeps on getting wrist time.

Fortis build is very, very good. They are long-time makers of quality watches, but don't have a huge volume. They remain official suppliers to the Russians for watches for use in their cosmonaut program.

    Compare to Sinn and Tutima?

Hard call. First of all, very different histories. Tutima goes back a long way as supplier of military watches and continues to be the official supplier of military watches to various European NATO countries. Sinn was for many years as well, and certainly is one of the premier "tool" watch companies.

You'd have to identify which model you are thinking of: all three use basically the same Swiss movements, with modificatios in each and every case (no pun intended). Fortis is definitely up there with either Sinn or Tutima in terms of build quality.

David, Thanks for this post. Over the last couple of weeks I've
been thinking about taking the big step to a more expensive
watch. The three companies I am interested in are Fortis, Sinn,
and O&W. I've seen alot here about Sinn & o&W, but very little
about Fortis. I look forward to the replies here.
I had some of my watches listed, but then I just got embarrassed.

    I own a Spacematic day/date and a Pilot gmt.
    Both excellent, high quality watches.

Nice watches, the Spacematic GMT is my favorite, but when I sold them, support from Fortis just wasn't there, so out they went.

Fortis certainly makes good watches and they have some history behind them.
I have the B-42 Pilot Professional Chronograph GMT, quite a massive watch on my wrist. It certainly looks big beside my wife's Omega, just see below....

The Fortis Pilot was my first mechanical watch, the one that started mt addiction.

It's good. I've used it as a bigtime beater and it still keeps excellent time and I love the old scool tritium. My favorite part of the watch is the crown action. Very tactile and positive.

Compared to my Sinn and Tutimas, for me they're a step above in overall quality and enjoyment.

My Fortis Pilot has got served me for 7+ years, and keeps going strong. Great value. My only compliant is the soft mineral-glass crystal - It is very exposed and scratch-prone!
