How many times a year would/do you need a Formal "dress watch"

    Hi All,

I am curious how often others really need or would like to have a dressier watch. A watch that looks appropriate with a suit or Tux.

I live a quite informally dressed life- I only wear a suit maybe once or twice a year. I've noticed on this forum, often people refer to the need for a watch to be appropriate for formal wear.

I'll try to post a poll.

    Best regards,

    Neil

I'm either in business casual or a suit every day, but to me this doesn't mean dress watch is required. I interpret this as avoid hardcore sports watches (Planet Oceans, G-Shocks etc). I always feel perfectly comfortable wearing my Aqua Terra, although I suppose if I'm actually making an effort to be dressy, I'll wear my Grand Seiko SBGH001. But I could wear either and still feel fine in a suit.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've wore a suit (or even a dress shirt and tie) in the past year. I'll never buy a dressy watch, it would be a waste of money.

Divers are more fun to wear anyway!

All the time because 1) I like them and 2) I wear a suit to work.

In regular rotation, I have five outright dress watches, plus one that could pass as a dress watch, and one sports watch. Do I need that many dress watches? No, but I wear them anyway because I like their style.

I tend to wear my two Seiko SARBs a lot to work, not your typical dress watches, the SARB035 has some lume, both autos, and the cocktail time can be easily dressed down. I work in a business casual environment but avoid khakis and dressing down, I always wear dress pants, dress shoes, and dress shirts, even an occasional blazer, so they both go really well, sometimes I wear my Sumo with khakis on a Friday, but rarely.

People underestimate how much your dress and how you carry yourself impacts promotion opportunities, dress for the position you want, not the position you have. Just because you can get away with dressing like a schlep doesn't mean you should.

All watches get worn in rotation pretty much, jeans and T everyday, last "formal" event was my daughter's wedding 2 years ago, if I'm lucky may not have to go formal again b4 I move on . . . .

I said less than three, but in reality, when I do wear a suit, it's generally a joyous occasion, not a business affair or funeral (luckily I haven't had to go to many of those), so the rules aren't really as stringent as some would lead you to believe. I'm business casual everyday, so I rotate in everything except for my Suunto, which I often switch to after work.
