How many watches do you actually use?

First world problem discussion here; not a class warfare thread.

How many watches do you need and how many watches can you practically rotate for different activities? I'm not talking about collecting for a collection's sake.

I started with two: a dressy chrono for suited occasions, and a dive watch for work and travel. Now I'm up to ten and starting over. Of course it's a personal choice but I'm thinking it will be three to five, no more, as my tastes have changed and WUS has informed me. All for different purposes and activities. Dress, dive, chrono, GMT. Beyond that it's a collection to me.

    What about you?

It is a question if how much money you can spend. I think that most people with multiple watches have a few favourites they rotate between.

Re: How many watches do you need?

I considered this in an earlier thread and came to the conclusion that three or four watches was my ideal number. Too many, and you don't get to spend enough time with each watch. Too few, you don't have a watch "suited" for a particular function. So my current ideal lineup would be:

1 - Pure Dress Watch - Jaeger LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Moon 39

2 - Casual Watch (Weekends, Weeknights) - Dornbluth & Sohn Quintus Auf & Ab (couldn't find good pictures, so just included another representative Dornbluth)

3 - Dive Watch (sporty activities, water, and travel) - Christopher Ward C60 or C60 GMT - I think since this watch will get banged around a little bit more, it's worth going for a mid-range price watch rather than a really expensive diver, but obviously the iconic Rolex Submariner and the modern classic, the Omega Planet Ocean, would be strong candidates for this job.

The 4th is much more optional and also much harder to afford financially, but I would add the possibility of having:

4 - Grail (for special occasions) - Patek Phillipe 5140 Perpetual Calendar (or some similarly amazing watch, like a Dufour Simplicity or F.P. Journe Octa Calendrier)

For me more than 4 and they dont get the wrist time they deserve. So, I've settled into a rotation of 2 watches for the work week and a couple 'fun' ones for the weekend. Right now its a Reverso & a Tudor for the week and a Halios & a Tsunami for the weekend. Plus a G-Shock for yard work, etc.

    3 or 4 then :).
My dive watch, grab-n-go beater and all-around watch all get wrist time. My fourth, a dressy watch, doesn't get much wear because I don't need to truly dress up often.

Need? 0. Want? 12 - I think that would be a good number for me right now.
