My recently acquired automatic gains about a minute a week (just under 10 seconds a day) so I have been setting it around minute behind letting it catch up over a week, then get somewhat (a minute or two) ahead before resetting and starting process over. So on average I guess I would be resetting every two or three weeks (assuming I don't let it wind down). I am curious, how often to folks adjust watches to compensate for their running fast or slow.
Before when I wore an automatic with standard ETA movement, I usually reset the watch every month, actually I wear one with a COSC movement so there is no need for monthly reset, I just reset the time at the same time I reset the date for months that don't end with 31.
I don't care if my watch is a couple minutes off so I never reset them, unless we go on or off daylight savings time, or when I rotate every week or two for my mechanicals.
I rotate through my watches so I guess it's ~once per month. Never bothered with the date though, it's always wrong on whatever mechanical watch I wear.
I like non-hacking Japanese autos, so when my watch gets 30 seconds ahead, I move it back a minute and let it catch back up to actual time. Even my lowliest Seiko5 goes nine or ten days before I need to do that.
My MKII Sea Fighter with a 2836 runs +2 crown-up and -1 face-up overnight, so I just check time.is every night and rest it accordingly depending on whether it's a second fast or a second slow. I didn't hack it from New Year's until March 1.
I only have one automatic watch at the moment, I reset it on a monthly basis. I'll reset my quartz watches annually and my manual mechanical Longines each time I wear it.
When I "wake up"a resting watch.
I do not bother with the date or other complications usually.
The only watch I reset all functions on is the JLC Day Moon, but then I will wear it for a couple of weeks before it goes back to sleep.
