Question How would you sell watches?????

    Ladies and Gentlemen:

I own 3 watches (have been a collector for years but never sold one!) that I would like to sell to purchase another watch or two. The watches were all bought new by me, I have the papers, they all have been serviced by their respective service depts. within the last 4 months, and are in very good to excellent shape. They are a Breitling Chronographe, a Maurice Lacroix Chronoglobe, and a Rolex Cellini Cellinium.

I have researched both the cost and conditions of selling them via auction on Antiquorum, Patrizzi, Bonham's, Christie's, Sotheby's, and Portero...it this the way you would sell them or another way?

    Thank you,
    j01270

you are aware that there is a Private Seller's forum here (and elsewhere) right? Any particular reason why you haven't thought about selling directly to other forum members?

Specialist forums are usually the best place to start with specialist interest stuff like this, then if you have no luck then resort to ebay.I've not sold any watches before but with my other interests i do a lot of buying and selling through internet forums and only rarely have to use ebay to sell something. It's often easier to deal with a fellow enthusiast, and reading someones posts tells you a lot more about a person/more reassurance than reading ebay feedback. It also gets you talking to and meeting people on a forum.

I've sold over a dozen watches and watch-related items on this forum with good success. Just post an "ad" in the for sale forum. I like to list stuff here on WUS rather than eBay. For one, it is free (no listing fees). Furthermore, I can "screen" my buyers by communicating with them prior to the sale to get a feel whether they are legit or not. On eBay, you don't know (and have little control over) who will win your auction. And as the poster above said, I feel more comfortable selling here since you are likely to deal with a fellow watch enthusiest who are more knowledgeable, minimizing getting screwed by the buyer.

    I agree with starting here,

    1. its free
    2. your keeping it in "the family"
    3. you know it will be going to a good home
    4. people are not (mostly) going to buy to flip, theyre going to wear and enjoy the watch alot.
    5. if it doesnt sell here, then try an auction where they take a (large) comission.

good luck. every watch ive ever sold was on WUS, and ive had the best (knock on wood) experience.

Sell 'em here or on another watch website. Stay away from ebay if possible.

I have posted "FS" on WUS and other sales forums. Don't like d'bay. Posting is easy and you get a lot of looks. The hard part is getting a buyer

Why? go take a look at how many watches are for sale on ebay, it would seem that you are in the minority with that opinion.

If you buy the seller why does it matter what the venue is?

Understeer is when you hit the wall with your front end. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with your rear end. Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall. Torque is how far you move the wall.
